Tips for Aesthetic Wedding Photos
If you are planning a wedding, you probably have a Pinterest board of lots of beautiful aesthetic wedding photos. You may even be hoping that your day will look similar or even wind up on someone else’s Pinterest board. I wanted to share some tips on how you can achieve Pinterest level wedding photos that exude the aesthetic you are desiring. I’ll even give you a little hint, aesthetic style wedding photos have less to do with the photographer you hire and everything to do with decor, flowers and sticking to a theme! So let’s get into it!
Tip #1— This is my most important tip, DON’T skimp on decor! I’ll explain a bit. A well decorated wedding will always photograph as such, even if your photographer wasn’t the most expensive or top of the line choice. On the flip side, you could choose the best, most professional photographer you can find, and if your wedding is poorly decorated, it will show. As a photographer myself I want to say up front, I can’t make something out of nothing. Though I try to take artistic photos of decor, if its cheap and not of good quality it shows. This leads to tip #2!
Tip #2 — Get real florals if you can! I know florals for weddings are expensive, but let me say real flowers make the difference! Even dried flowers with the right wedding vibe look good. I caution against faux flowers for the fact that often times they are not of good quality, and often times the colors are off and it is obvious. I will say there have been weddings that I have attended where the faux flowers were well done and looked good, but its more rare than common. I also highly encourage hiring a florist, they are the experts for a reason, and always do a great job at decorating a space and creating amazing bouquets.
Tip #3 — Choose a style or theme for your wedding decor and stick with it. Some couples love a bohemian theme, others go for a more modern look…. all themes can be beautiful when exectuted well! When you try to fit too many themes into a wedding it doesn’t always mix well, which is why I recommend sticking to one!
Tip #4 — Share the vision you have for your day with your photographer! I love when my couples do this or even share their Pinterest boards with me. It helps me understand what they are looking for. I never set out to exactly copy a photo from Pinterest but I can get an overall feel of what you are wanting me to create.
Tip #5 — Details matter! The more detail you put into your day the more it will show in your photos. This is not to say that you need to cover every inch of your venue in decor, but by adding small details such as flowers to your cake, or nicely made table numbers you can really take yourwedding photos to the next level.
Tip #6 — Choose a photographer that aligns with the aesthetic you want to achieve. Some photographers edit and take photos more on the moody side, with darker shadows, while others have a style of “light and airy”. I recommend choosing someone that will have an editing style that you love and will bring your photos to life in the way you are envisioning.
I wanted to finish this post by saying that every wedding is beautiful whether it’s super high budget or not. What really makes a wedding beautiful is two people’s love for one another, the rest is like a cherry on top, a way to show case the beauty of your love. This post was intended for the bride that is looking to bring her Pinterest board to life and has the budget to do so! Here are some photo examples of a wedding I photographed that I feel nailed the aesthetic and I could totally see ending up on Pinterest one day!
